Caribbean dumplings are a big thing for West Indians. They are enjoyed as a side or inside of soups. The best dumplings are boiled dumplings, especially if it’s this Caribbean boiled cassava dumplings.

Along with being easy and simple to make, dumplings are delicious. Caribbean dumplings are far different from other dumplings around the world. Unlike other dumplings, all you need is flour, salt, sugar and water. Of course you can always add extras, like cornmeal and cassava.

This root vegetable grown in the Caribbean and other tropical areas. You can use the vegetable in various ways, we decided to make this Caribbean boiled cassava dumplings recipe.

Caribbean Boiled Cassava Dumplings

This Caribbean boiled cassava dumplings recipe will have you looking at cassava and dumplings differently. This recipe is simple and tasty.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 & 1/2 cups All-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 & 1/4 cups Grated cassava
  • 1/2 cup Water at room temperature
  • 2 tbsp Butter at room temperature
  • 1 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, mix the flour, salt and sugar together.
  • Add the butter and cassava, mix everything together.
  • Gradually knead in the water.
  • Knead on a floured surface for at least 1 minute. The dough should be slightly sticky.
  • Divide the dough into 16 equal balls. Take each ball and flatten in the palm of your hands. Set aside.
  • Place each dumpling in a pot of boiling water that has been salted. Boil for 10-15 minutes. The dumplings should float to the top when it is done.
